Future of the Region

• Long-term visioning can lead to:
  • Growth on less land
  • Better transportation planning
  • Safe, vibrant communities
  • Preservation of key natural areas
  • Agriculture
We believe that long term visioning and planning are critical to the future Floridians want. Short term planning and short sighted decision making have contributed to the problems that currently threaten the very things Floridians value most about the region.

Failure to plan how growth occurs will continue to negatively affect our quality of life. Unplanned growth will likely result in the elimination of our most precious natural areas and the deterioration of safe and secure communities.

Deseret’s commitment to appropriate growth led it to be an early partner in the myregion visioning process by making financial contributions for a regional values study to determine what people value most about Central Florida. This research continues to inform our planning and visioning and can be an effective tool in the region to ensure that growth options and development plans create and maintain the communities and natural places that we all desire and hope to have.

Deseret is actively participating in regional environmental planning efforts, such as Naturally Central Florida. We are supporting a host of transportation studies in which important options for connecting regional economic centers are being analyzed. Deseret has been a contributing partner and participant in examining Florida’s future through the visioning processes conducted by the University of Central Florida in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania.

We understand that the Ranch will play an important role in the future of Central Florida. We have resisted many offers to sell off piecemeal portions of the Ranch. We will work with other key regional stewards in planning possible ways for the Ranch to help fulfill the public’s desire for wisely planned development. The result will accommodate some of the region’s growth on less land, connect important regional economic centers, preserve key natural areas, and provide wonderful communities, while continuing agriculture throughout the foreseeable future.
