Deseret Ranches is fully committed to preserving and promoting the things we all love about Central Florida. In the face of staggering growth, the Ranch understands the necessity of long-term planning, responsible land management, and sustainable growth so that future generations may continue to enjoy the natural beauty and quality of life that characterizes Central Florida.
We are committed to doing things right. We have done it right with our agricultural production and employees, and we will work with the community to do things right in the face of future development. Deseret is working with national and regional visioning experts and is working with regional partners in East Central Florida in an effort to be a voice for responsible growth.
Growth is now encroaching on the Ranch, and others are in the process of making decisions that will significantly affect the future of the Ranch. Transportation planning agencies are currently studying numerous road and transit options that could cross the Ranch or could be blocked forever by development outside of the Ranch boundaries. Various cities and counties are working to take water off the Ranch for use in other locations, potentially placing significant limits on the amount of water available for agriculture or growth on the Ranch. Various experts and entities have recommended a major cross-Florida transportation corridor parallel to I-4 that would cross the Ranch. Osceola County has included thousands of acres of the Ranch within its urban growth boundary.
Because of decisions and activities that are currently being made within Central Florida, it is important to preserve options that could allow the Ranch to play a critical, beneficial role in the future of the region. Otherwise, corridors for roads and transit to serve the Ranch could be lost and the ability for the Ranch to grow in a way that does not promote sprawl could disappear. Similarly, water to serve agriculture or growth on the Ranch could be transported off the Ranch to serve far away areas. |
